Directions to BASE CAMP (formerly Camelot Lodge):
We are 2.3 miles from the top of "Hurrah Pass"

Let’s be clear, you should have four wheel drive to get here, but SUVs can make it, with plenty of ground clearance. If you don’t have that, you should either contact "Tag A Long" who will jet boat you down and drop you off at the lodge or make arrangements with us to come get you, which we'll happily do.

- From Route 191 between Burger King and McDonalds, turn on "Kane Creek Blvd."

- At the Y in the road, STAY STRAIGHT, and the Colorado River will be on your right side about 1/2 mile or so up the road as you drive through what is known as "The Portal".

- After 4 miles of paved road it will turn into a hard packed dirt road- RESET YOUR ODOMETER NOW- You will wind down into the canyon and then into a valley area. Along the way you will cross over two creeks (they may be dry depending on the time of year) and if it’s raining heavily, use discretion, you can get trapped on the far side and not be able to get back until the following day.

- At aprox. 6.3 miles from where you left the paved road, you will see the 1st "Hurrah Pass" directional sign- it will be after you cross the 2nd creek.

- You will now go another 2.7 miles from this point to the top of "Hurrah Pass". From the time you left the paved road, this should have taken approximately 45 minutes depending on how comfortable you are driving on at best a “dirt” road and how often you stop to look at the scenery. There is substantial elevation to this road leading up the pass and down again. If height is an issue for you, take the day off.

- At the top of "Hurrah Pass" you will see an elevation sign on your left and will be able to see the white roof of Base Camp if you look toward the widest part of the river with the island in it.

- From this point it is exactly 2.3 miles to our "Camelot Adventure Lodge" sign.

- When you get to the "Camelot Lodge" sign you will bear RIGHT and go down the hill to the first of two gates. Once you go through the first gate, you will wind around through a sandy wash.

- As you bear LEFT past the "Private Drive" sign, in the direction of the pens you will see the 2nd green gate just ahead and that will lead you up to the lodge.

You will see a parking area on the LEFT and WELCOME!!!

It would be wise to call us when you are leaving town to come here
on the sometime working satellite phone at 254-201-2803.
If you don't show up within 1.5 hours, we'll come looking for you.
